How Our Customers Effectively Manage Aluminum Dross?

Feb 24, 2024 Leave a message

In the intricate world of aluminum processing, the efficient handling of aluminum dross is paramount for optimizing metal recovery. Our customers employ a dross press systematic approach that involves various stages and specialized equipment to recover as much aluminum as possible from the dross.

◆ Skimming Dross from Reverberatory Furnace

In the initial stage, operators skim dross from the reverberatory furnace, separating it from the molten aluminum.

◆ Quick Skim and Squeeze in Dross Press

A quick skim is followed by squeezing the dross in a specialized dross press. This step is crucial for expelling excess aluminum from the dross.

◆ Getting Aluminum Drain Sow under the Dross Pan Mold

To further refine the extraction process, aluminum drain sow is collected beneath the dross pan mold.

◆ Getting the Aluminum Skull

The aluminum skull, a residue rich in aluminum content, is obtained through meticulous processing.

◆ Put the Drain Sow Back into the Reverberatory Furnace to Melt

The drain sow is then reintroduced into the reverberatory furnace to ensure complete melting.

◆ Put the Aluminum Skull and Second Aluminum Dross into TRF

Subsequently, the aluminum skull and additional aluminum dross are placed into the Tilting Rotary Furnace (TRF).

◆ Pouring Drain Sow from TRF

The molten aluminum is poured, continuing the separation process and facilitating metal recovery.

Following the above operations, if the original dross contains 50-60% aluminum, our process can recover an impressive 45-55%, leaving only 5% aluminum in the remaining dross, resulting in an overall recovery of 90%.

Further Refinement Steps

1. Some customers opt to press the TRF dross again, aiming to retain an additional 2-4% aluminum.

2. Subsequently, the dross undergoes milling and screening processes to recover the last 5-10% of aluminum.

3. For dross containing only 5%, customers may choose to cool it rapidly in a cooling pan, minimizing environmental impact, and then proceed with landfilling.

4. Alternatively, some customers prefer cooling the dross for potential use in cement plants, contributing to sustainable practices.

Aluminum Recovery

Aluminum recovery involves halting the oxidation process, preventing aluminum from being lost during processing. Notably, aluminum oxidation ceases under 320℃, and beyond this temperature, a 1% aluminum loss occurs per minute.

Aluminum Recovery Process

This comprehensive process includes squeezing drain sow, extracting aluminum skull, reducing temperatures below 320℃, and employing TRF for further recovery.
